ABSF is a multi-million Euro collaborative project initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN) in Ethiopia and Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (AACCSA) who have a long history of partnership and rich experience in providing adequate information and hands-on business development support services. The idea for ABSF to scale up such efforts evolved from a needs assessment study of EKN in 2011 that identified a range of challenges facing agribusiness companies.

Further consultations with a family of existing business platforms and networks that showed high interest in the new initiative also made ABSF a necessary intervention to address the challenges. Subsequently, ABSF was designed and launched jointly by the project financier EKN and host AACCSA in December 2012 in Addis Ababa.

ABSF strives to achieve the following objectives:

  • Attract foreign direct investment in Ethiopia’s agribusiness sector
  • Increase the number of new domestic companies in the agribusiness sector
  • Increase trade between Ethiopia and high-value markets
  • Hands-on business support services
  • Promote agribusiness opportunities
  • Support young entrepreneurs to get necessary skills and attitude
  • Support specific subsectors (currently four: spice, poultry, potato and aquaculture)
  • Enable integration of services into AACCSA
